About This Toy

Everyone can picture a marble run working. You see the ramp, you see the marble, you see it arriving neatly in the bucket. Then you build it, press run, and the marble leaves the second ramp about forty centimetres higher than you expected and sails clean over everything you spent five minutes placing.

That gap — between the run you imagined and the run physics actually gives you — is the whole game. Marble Run Architect does not fake it. The marble is a body with real momentum, every piece is a surface with its own bounciness and friction, and the simulation steps forward in small fixed increments so a track that works once works every time. Nothing nudges the marble toward the bucket to be nice.

There are twelve puzzles that hand you a limited set of pieces and a target, and a sandbox with unlimited everything. Every build compresses into a share code you can send to somebody else.

How To Build

  1. Tap a piece in the tray at the bottom, then tap a grid square to place it. Tap a placed piece to take it back.
  2. Press Run to release the marble. Press it again to stop and go back to editing.
  3. After a run, a dotted ghost trail shows exactly where the marble went. This is the most useful thing on the screen.
  4. Drag anywhere on the background to swing the camera around and check your alignment from the side.
  5. On a computer, Space runs and stops, 17 pick pieces, Z undoes and R clears the board.
  6. Properly stuck? Hint lays out one solution that is known to work. Solving that way caps the puzzle at one star, and there is no hint in the sandbox.

How Stars Work

Each puzzle is worth up to three stars, and they are independent of each other:

  • One star — the marble reaches the bucket.
  • Two stars — it collects every gold token on the way.
  • Three stars — you did both using no more pieces than the par.

Par is generous enough that a tidy solution makes it and a sprawling one does not. If you are three pieces over, the answer is usually not another ramp — it is deleting two and letting the marble fall further before you catch it.

Things That Will Catch You Out

  • Speed accumulates. A marble that has fallen four rows is moving considerably faster than one that has fallen two, and it will fly straight off the end of a ramp that worked fine higher up.
  • Funnels are the fix. When a run keeps overshooting, a funnel absorbs whatever sideways speed the marble has and hands it back to you falling straight down.
  • Bumpers are not a shortcut. They return most of the energy they receive, so a fast marble comes off one going somewhere genuinely unpredictable.
  • Gaps are allowed. Empty squares are free and let the marble build the speed it needs. Filling every square is almost never the answer.

Why This Exists

Physical intuition is worse than we think it is. Ask anyone to sketch the path of a ball leaving a curved tube and a startling number will draw a curve. We reason about motion with rules of thumb that mostly work at walking pace and quietly fall apart everywhere else.

A marble run is the cheapest possible way to be shown this. There is no penalty, no lecture, and no score for being wrong the first eleven times — just a small glass ball, gravity, and the growing suspicion that you have never really understood a ramp.

Yes. It works on modern mobile browsers including Chrome, Safari and Firefox. Tap a piece in the tray, then tap a grid square to place it, and tap a placed piece to remove it. Landscape gives you a much better view of tall tracks.
