About This Tool
Every moment has a sky attached to it, whether or not anyone is outside. At the second you were born the Sun was at a precise altitude above a precise compass bearing, the Moon was a precise fraction lit, and the stars were exactly where they were.
This works all of that out from first principles: solar declination and hour angle for the Sun, lunar phase geometry for the Moon, and local sidereal time to place the brightest stars on your horizon. It is the same arithmetic used to aim a telescope, applied to a moment nobody thought to record.
How To Use It
- Enter your date and, if you know it, your time of birth. Noon is a reasonable guess if you don't.
- Pick your city. Latitude decides how high the Sun climbed and which stars were even visible.
- Check the time zone. It is estimated from longitude, and historical daylight saving is not accounted for.
- Read the sky. The dome shows your horizon, with the Sun, the Moon and the brightest stars placed where they actually were.
Why This Exists
Because the fact that there was a sky is easy to forget. Your birth is a story told entirely in human terms — a room, a time, a set of people — and meanwhile the ordinary machinery of the solar system was carrying on exactly as it does every second, indifferent and precise.
The number at the bottom does something similar from the other direction. You were not the first person and you will not be the last, and it is oddly grounding to see roughly where in the sequence you landed: somewhere past a hundred billion, with several billion arriving after you.

What does this tool actually calculate?
Real positional astronomy for the moment you give it. It computes where the Sun was in your sky, how much of the Moon was lit and whether it was waxing or waning, which of the brightest stars stood highest above your horizon, and how long that day lasted where you were born.
Is this astrology?
No. There are no signs, no houses and no predictions here. Everything shown is straightforward positional astronomy, the same geometry used to point a telescope, and none of it claims to mean anything about your personality or your future.
How accurate are the positions?
The Sun is accurate to well under a degree and the Moon phase to about a percent, which is far closer than the eye can judge. The largest source of error is the time zone, because historical daylight saving rules are not built in, so if you are unsure of the offset the positions may be out by roughly fifteen degrees per hour.
How can it know which number human I was?
It cannot know, it estimates. The figure comes from the Population Reference Bureau's model of all human births since about 190,000 BCE, which totals roughly 117 billion. Your position is interpolated from that curve, so treat it as a good order-of-magnitude answer rather than a place in a queue.
Why does it need my city?
Because the sky is different everywhere at the same instant. Latitude decides how high the Sun climbs and which stars are visible at all, and longitude decides what time it is locally. Without a location there is no sky to describe.
Is anything stored or uploaded?
No. The entire calculation runs in your browser. Your birth details are never uploaded, never stored, and disappear the moment you close the tab.
